Behavior Analysis of Emotions, Dr. Mark Steege
The first day of the workshop will include discussion and illustration of a Behavior Analytic Problem Solving (BAPS) model (Steege & Watson, 2009) and recently revised assessment and synthesis models that illustrate how emotions contribute to occurrences of disruptive behavior. The workshop will focus on the problem identification, description, and conceptualization phases of the assessment-intervention process in answering the questions “What’s the problem?” and “How do we conceptualize emotions when conducting an FBA?”
Bridging The Gap: Function-Based Behavior Support Plans, Dr. Mark Steege
This half-day workshop will discuss and illustrate a model for using the results of a Functional Behavioral Assessment to design function-based behavior support plans. This workshop will focus on the design of intervention phase of the assessment-intervention process answering the questions “OK, we know the problem. Now what do we do? What are the solutions?”
Ensuring Student Success: Mental Health Matters, Dr. Stephen Brock, NASP President
After examining statistics regarding the burden of mental illness on students, schools and society as a whole; this workshop will argue that schools and school-employed mental health professionals (such as school psychologists) are essential to the promotion of mental health. The session will then explore how school mental health promotion can be offered via a multitiered system of support (MTSS). Special attention will be given to universal promotion and mental health crisis intervention.
