On January 17th, 2019, DASP will host Dr. Emily Bernabe and Mrs. Kellene Copeland as they present on classroom and behavioral consultation strategies for students with autism across the lifespan.

For those of you that participated in Dr. Bernabe's presentation at the 2018 DASP spring conference, your registration will be free!! If you did not attend the spring conference, but would like to attend the January workshop, registration will only be $30!


About the training:  Given the rise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), school psychologists and other school-based professionals are increasingly required to participate in screening, assessment and educational planning and programming for students with autism. Thus, school psychologists are often asked to provide consultation and behavioral supports to children with autism in classroom settings. Participants will learn about behavioral consultation and how to support students with autism across different age groups and levels of functioning. Navigating the consultation relationship with teacher and other professionals will be discussed. Furthermore, the presentation will discuss ways that school psychologists can offer training and support to families of children with ASD and how to offer family-centered collaborative care. Several case examples will be utilized to discuss different behavioral interventions that can be applied to classroom settings.

About the presenters:

  • Dr. Emily Bernabe is a Pediatric Psychologist at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children (AIDHC). Dr. Bernabe completed her doctoral training in school psychology at Temple University. She completed an APA-accredited internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, where she gained specialized training in behavioral treatments and interventions for children with complex neurodevelopmental disabilities. She went on to complete an autism-specific fellowship at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children (AIDHC), where she gained specialized training in ASD and child development. Dr. Bernabe is now the Clinical Director of Psychology, Swank Autism Center at Nemours/AIDHC. Clinically, she provides behavior therapy, diagnostic evaluations, and psychological testing for children and families affected by ASD. Her research interests include dissemination of evidence-based ASD assessments and interventions within the community and care coordination for families affected by ASD.
  • Mrs. Copeland provides professional development and coaching to educators, clinicians and other professionals on topics related to supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. As a coach for the Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA), she assists schools and other organizations with identifying and implementing evidence-based practices and creating an environment that promotes success for children and adults with ASD and their families. She is also a Devereux Safe and Positive Approaches Trainer. She received her Master’s and certification in Autism and Severe Disabilities from Wilmington University.
